Wandsworth: 6 Reasons Why You Should Visit

1. It’s really safe:

You know when someone describes an area as up and coming because it’s cheap but they really mean it’s a dive? This is definitely not Wandsworth, the safest borough in inner London for recorded crime. According to government figures, it’s even safer than places like Oxford and bizarrely, North Lincolnshire.

2. There are lots of chubs to choose from:

Wandworth is huge and there are lot of different micro-communities to choose from, each with its own hub of shops and restaurants. If you want a big night out, you probably want to head to Clapham whereas if you’re looking for alternative cuisines, Wandsworth Town and Tooting are both pretty diverse. Because Wandsworth is split into pockets of communities, each area has its own localised facilities and that includes green spaces. One of the most picturesque ones is Battersea Park, where there’s even a children’s zoo. But there are also places to walk, exercise or simply enjoy the sun in Wandsworth Town, Clapham and Tooting.

3. It’s really well connected:

There’s a misconception about south London being difficult to get to. It’s really not. You can reach the hubs on the eastern side of the borough on the Northern Line and the western side on the District Line. And then there’s the Overground. In between, there’s a huge network of buses, many of which run 24 hours a day. And then there are the trains. You can get to Gatwick Airport in as little as 30 minutes from Clapham Junction.

4. Serious food options:

You probably won’t find London’s cheapest eats in Wandsworth but you do have some serious contenders from posh eateries to world cuisines. There are two Michelin-starred restaurants – Chez Bruce and Trinity – if you want to go fancy. You will also find gourmet offerings from Eritrea to Sri Lanka and everywhere in between. There are even cheffy pop-ups in the form of The Dairy’s Bloodshot Supperclub. Take that, Dalston.

5. And you won’t go thirsty either:

Wandsworth has long had a brewing tradition with Young’s having once been based in the borough. But while the beer giant has moved out, there are plenty of smaller breweries and brew-pubs to take its place. Sambrook’s, Belleville Brewing Co and Mondo Brewing Co are just a few you should check out. For the wine aficionados, there are plenty of options too. You can pick up a worth tipple from independent merchants like Philglas & Swiggot or Bottle Apostle. Alternatively, you can drink in at places like Soif and Vagabond.

6. The libraries are really good in wandsworth:

‘Do people still visit libraries?’ I hear you ask. Actually, you don’t have to go to a branch to borrow a book in Wandsworth. Once you’re a member, you can borrow ebooks from the digital archive via apps such as Overdrive. And yes, it’s free.

If you need a local taxi while in Wandsworth don’t hesitate to call Jet Airport Cars.
